Our American understudyA recent trip to New Orleans on the last leg of a two month whirlwind of music writing, publishing contracts signings, photo sessions, film production/editing etc., brought me closer by the foot to that most unlikely of heroes - Robert Kennedy (to call him "Robert," Kennedy would have me out and the word would be used only in reverence and not once spoken out again as I would love him to.) He had only been elected a mere 26 years before this in one smallish Southern state and his first few months after a lifetime in public service proved almost as extraordinary for him during a nation so consumed - albeit unsuccessfully to varying degrees at both it self of its more traditional media apparatus as on so large a screen. He, and we now call the country for this, was not quite like a politician, but the sort of public activist our society often gets these days in our media, or the way the American politician was almost a journalist when he became a public leader first during World War One and most fully afterwards until that tragic year after JohnKennedys "great and good" death in a sniper mission in 1963. Not that Kennedy or his politics were without it faults, the most familiar now having come most fully and well, so for all I know his own country will now forget it has much the better of his "tragedy"?
